2022 Walk for the Woods Sponsorship
Sponsorship Deadline: March 31, 2022
Walk for the Woods is back!
Scenic Rivers Land Trust is pleased to announce that our annual “Walk for the Woods” will return in 2021.
The beloved outdoor community event is scheduled for Saturday, April 24, 2021, at Bacon Ridge Natural Area in Crownsville (rain date is April 25).
Scenic Rivers will again partner with Anne Arundel County’s Department of Recreation and Parks to offer a wonderful opportunity to walk, learn about, and explore this beautiful wilderness just minutes from downtown Annapolis.
For the safety of participants and volunteers, the traditional event will be modified to conform with state and county COVID-19 public gathering requirements. We anticipate a fantastic, safe day in our local, protected woods!
The event will require advance online registration and timed entry to control gathering size. Attendees will access the natural area via Farm Road (typically not open to the public).
Once you've entered the event, you may stay as late as 3 pm.
Experts in wildlife, native plants, birds, and more will be on-site and available to attendees. Plus, self-guided hike options will be offered, complete with trail maps and educational signage posted along the trails. Hikes range from 1 to 4 miles, vary in degree of difficulty, and are on marked unpaved trails.
IMPORTANT TIMED-ENTRY INFORMATION
For the safety of volunteers, staff, and attendees, timed-entry is required for this event.
To attend Walk for the Woods, please select and register for an entry time via the registration form below.
Upon completing your registration, you will receive a registration confirmation email with a digital ticket that indicates the entry time for which you registered. You may arrive anytime during your timed entry hour.
Please plan to present this ticket to our volunteers upon arrival at the event.
GUIDED HIKE & ACTIVITY REGISTRATION
With your registration confirmation email, you will also receive links to register for in-person guided hikes and the popular-with-kids "Critter Discovery" activity. The number of participants allowed on these activities is very limited this year, so be sure to sign up early.
The Critter Discovery will be offered between 11 am and 2:30 pm. Critter Discovery time slots are currently sold out between 1 pm and 2 pm. Spaces are still available between 11 am and 12:40 pm.
The guided hike schedule is as follows:
"SAY MY NAME" CEREMONY
During Walk for the Woods 2021, local historian Janice Hayes-Williams will once again host the "Say My Name" remebrance ceremony honoring the Crownsville State Hospital patients who were buried in the Crownsville Hospital Cemetery (located adjacent to Bacon Ridge Natural Area) with only numbers to mark their graves. To allow for more participation, the ceremony is being offered twice—at 10 am and again at 11 am.
Attendance is limited to 25 people per ceremony and advance registration is required. A link to register will be provided in your timed entry confirmation email. If you wish to attend the "Say My Name" Ceremony and this will be your first activity of the day, you should register for entry to the event during the 9-10 am or 10-11 am entry windows.
